Our smiles are supposed to last a lifetime. However, teeth extractions are sometimes a necessary part of life, especially in instances of infection or severe damage to the tooth’s structure. If you or a family member needs a tooth extraction, call our office today to schedule a consultation. You may require a tooth extraction for many reasons, including:
In many cases, a tooth can be repaired without having to be removed, but if extraction is the right option, our trained dental team is here to help.
Our dentist will perform a thorough examination to assess the tooth's condition and recommend the necessary treatment. We will take digital X-rays to determine your tooth's health and whether it can be saved without extraction, such as through a root canal. If the tooth cannot be saved, our dentist will perform your extraction as soon as scheduling permits. We offer emergency appointments and convenient extended hours to try and treat you as promptly as possible.
Once you arrive for your extraction, our dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb your mouth. We also offer dental sedation options to make your experience comfortable. Be sure to discuss whether laughing gas or oral sedation is right for you. When your mouth is fully numb, our dentist will extract and remove the tooth. Next, the extraction site will be thoroughly cleaned and packed with gauze to help slow any bleeding. A stitch may be applied to the extraction site if necessary.
You will experience some pain, swelling, and discomfort for 1-2 days after your procedure. We will prescribe prescription pain relievers and antibiotics as needed to reduce your symptoms and prevent infection. Be sure to relax as much as possible and avoid hard-to-eat foods for the first few days.
While teeth may sometimes be removed to restore your overall oral health, you should never let tooth loss go untreated. Ask our dentist about dental implants to learn if this tooth loss solution is right for you.
